HLTH5121 - Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Acute Care
Course Description
The course consists of five modules in foundations of general nurse assisting and one module in nurse aide acute caregiving. Instructors deliver an intensive hands-on approach to prepare participants with the skills to be successful in the acute care healthcare industry. Participants will develop knowledge and skills through theory, practice in the classroom and nursing lab settings as well as externship at assigned hospitals and related facilities.Course Outline

Upon successful completion of this course participants will be able to:• Give examples of current issues challenging the healthcare delivery system in the U.S.
• Account for legal principles that guide personnel in the delivery of healthcare.
• State the evolution of the nursing assistant in long term care and in-patient care assisting in hospital setting.
• Demonstrate effective communication methods used by the healthcare team to exchange vital patient information.
• Describe measures utilized to prevent the spread of infectious organisms.
• Perform task-oriented duties and skills under the supervision of licensed medical personnel.

Prerequisites
- High School Completion
- SAT/ACT 11th grade level math and reading or college transcript
- Basic computer skills
- Completed Leeward CC Physical Examination Clearance Form.
- Proof of 2-Step TB test completed within the last six months.
- Proof of MMR vaccination (titer is acceptable).
- Proof of Hep B series vaccination (titer is acceptable).
- Copy of you photo ID
- Current Criminal Abstract (https://ecrim.ehawaii.gov) (abstract needs to be submitted within 30 days of issuance).
