Course Description
This course introduces plasma-arc cutting systems to students. These topics include safety, proper equipment setup, and operation of plasma and carbon air arc gouging equipment with emphasis on straight line, curve, and bevel cutting.Course Outline
Week 1. Orientation
Week 2-3. Safety rules and regulations
Week 4. Chemistry of a cut
Week 5-6. Methods of improving a cut
Week 7. Arc plasma system (equipment and parts)
Week 8. Air carbon-arc gouging system
Week 9-15. Practical application associated with plasma/arc cutting in the work place.Learner Outcomes
On completion of the course, the student will be able to:
1. Apply personal and environmental safety practices associated with clothing, eye protection, use of hand tools and power equipment.
2. Properly set up, adjust, tune, and shut down Plasma and Arc gouging equipment.
3. Identify safety considerations of each cutting process.
4. Perform out-of-position welding which would include vertical and overhead welding.
5. Perform butt, lap, and tee gouge using carbon-arc gouger.
6. Perform cutting process on various thicknesses of metal using plasma arc cutter.

**Personal projects are allowing in welding shop, but must be cleared by instructor before starting. All personal projects are subjected to shop fees which are calculated by net cost. Personal projects must not interfere with classroom or instructional time.
