TRAD6201 - Constructing an EV
Course Description
The Constructing an EV course is the first of its kind for UHMC. It is designed to expand student’s, knowledge and hands on skills. These students whom have already taken the Introduction to HEV course are ready for an advanced level course which requires high voltage knowledge and the hands on safety skills behind assembling all components of a normal car including the high voltage battery pack, controller, and motor. Much like previous generations built transistor radios or computers this class will be building a street-legal EV which will push student interaction, understanding, and interest like never before!Course Outline
Understand the fundamental parts of an EV (Electric Vehicle) and be able to assemble them correctly into each other and into the chassis of vehicle safely to provide propulsion for vehicle.Learner Outcomes
1. Safely be able to work in a shop environment with high voltage parts including batteries, cables, motors, and computer boards.
2. Work with a group of students assembling sections of vehicle including steering and suspension, brakes, high voltage battery, high voltage controller, Motor assembly to drivetrain.
3. By the end, students must be able to understand how all parts go together to create the power needed to drive vehicle.

TRAD6202-Introduction to Automotive TechnologyRecommendations
1. Identify high voltage components (live and dead)
2. Work safely around live high voltage components.
3. Identify correct components needed to build propulsion components of EV and know where they are required to make vehicle run safely.
Assessment:
1. Vehicle must be assembled by end of 7 days.
2. Vehicle must run safely and correctly at the final day of course.
