Course Description

The Mental Health Technician is a member of the health care team who, under the supervision of a registered nurse, establishes and maintains a therapeutic relationship with patients, communicates with clients and documents appropriately, and assists patients in developing self-help skills. The Mental Health Technician student is trained to be familiar with a wide array of mental health illnesses and interventions.

This course also familiarizes the Mental Health Technician student with psychiatric medications, proper medication administration and documentation in the inpatient and hospital setting so the student may function within the scope of an inpatient hospital Psychiatric Technician.

Course Outline

1. Patient care experience preferred.
