TRAD6550 - Homestead Building Training

Course Description

This 8-week, intensive, hands-on program through Makaha Learning Center serves as a direct pathway to becoming a carpenter and/or construcon worker within the Naiwa Homestead Agricultural Subdivision projects and/or other state-wide projects. Training will start with instrucon in November 2023 and culminate with workforce transional services into internship, apprenceship, and employment opportunies with Molokai Affordable Housing Alliance (MAHA) and other relevant employers on the island of Molokai.

Competencies ? Training completers will be able to apply Occupaonal Health and Safety Regulaons and safe work pracces in the workplace. ? Training completers will be able to idenfy and describe solid wood products and joinery. ? Training completers will be able to idenfy common hand tools and describe their proper uses. ? Training completers will be able to idenfy and describe the safe operaon and maintenance of portable power tools. ? Training completers will be able to idenfy and describe the safe operaon and maintenance of staonary power tools and demonstrate tool proficiency through selected shop projects. ? Training completers will be able to idenfy and demonstrate the use of basic drawing instruments. ? Training completers will be able to use a calculator and apply basic math concepts to solve trade-related problems using both metric and imperial systems of measurement.
