Course Description

Everyone involved in permit space entry operations must be trained in the hazards of the permit spaces and hot safely perform assigned duties. Employees who work in the general area should be trained to recognize the danger or permit spaces through signs or other effective warning.s

Training is to be performance oriented. In other words, it needs to focus on the skills necessary to safely perform specific job duties. The Permit--Required Confined Space Standard requires that training be done:

Before and employee can be assigned a permit space job
Before any changes in work assignment are made, or whenever a new hazard changes permit space operations; and
If the employer feels that entry procedures are not being followed, or if an employee does not appear to have the skills needed to safely do the job.

On-site rescue and emergency team members must practice making simulated permit space rescues at least once every 12 months

Following the training covered in Confined Spaces: Dangerous Places, employees should be able to:

Describe what constitutes a confined space and a permit-required confined space;
Identify some of the specific hazards associated with working in permit spaces;
Know the general duties and responsibilities of the authorized entrant, attendant, and entry supervisor;
Identify the role of the emergency rescue team.
