Course Description

Kapiolani Community College will provide a unique 7-day English and hospitality program for Nakamura International Hotel School.  This training program will develop students English speaking ability as hotel workers and introduce cross-cultural understanding and customer service, Hawaiian hospitality to Nakamura students. Also, students will have hotel operations tours at a few Waikiki hotels to observe various types of services to accommodate hotel guests' needs in Waikiki and Kahala area, and how Hawaiian hospitality is applied. 

Course Outline

  1. English course with job-related vocabulary and language in the hotel 
  2. Hawaiian hospitality workshop 
  3. Customer Service workshop 
  4. Cross-cultural awareness workshop
  5. Hotel operations tour 

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the program, the students will be able to: 

  1. Demonstrate language skills need for work in hotel 
  2. Demonstrate an awareness of cross-cultural understanding and customer service needed for work in hotel 
  3. Define good customer service in hotel industry 
  4. Describe the characteristics of Hawaiian Hospitality
