Course Description

This course includes learning basic medical terminology, positioning and draping of client, proper posture and body mechanics, basic Swedish massage strokes, sanitation and hygiene practices and contraindications to massage practice.

Learner Outcomes

  1. List and discuss major indications, contraindications and cautions for Swedish massage.
  2. Describe the effects and benefits of strokes and techniques used in Swedish massage.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate application of Swedish massage strokes and techniques, including draping and positioning.
  4. Practice good body mechanics that reduce risk of injury to both the practitioner and client.

Student must have successfully completed Introduction to Massage Therapy or Massage Program Director's approval.
