Course Description

The purpose of this course is to enable the students to acquire the knowledge of some of the primary structures of the Spanish language.  The main structures of the language will be presented following a grammatically oriented approach. This course will cover grammatical concepts such as nouns, adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and prepositions; the grammar will be presented not as an end in itself but as a necessary tool for effective communication.  The material will be presented in order of difficulty. This course is cumulative; the students are expected to know the material that was previously introduced because it builds upon prior understanding. This course will introduce basic writing, speaking and listening skills.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of this course each student:

-will use correct pronunciation

-will form sentences using nouns, adjectives and adverbs

-will use the verbs “ser” and “estar”

-will form negative sentences and formulate questions

-will be able to describe places, peoples and things

-will be able to describe the weather

-will be able to use demonstrative adjectives and pronouns

-will be able to express possession using possessive adjectives and pronouns

-will be able to form sentences using the verb “tener”
