Course Description

Join us for this free webinar on a discussion related to the issues of sexual violence and sex trafficking in Hawai'i and how COVID-19 has impacted community experiences of these issues by victim-survivors. The discussion will include identifying various resources available in the community, including The Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC) of Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children and Susannah Wesley Community Center's Trafficking Victim Assistance Program.

Speaker Bios:

Inji Kim, MPH, is an Education Coordinator at the Sex Abuse Treatment Center. She provides sexual violence prevention (SVP) presentations and 1<-12 SVP curricula trainings throughout communities on O'ahu.

Christy Werner, LCSW, was born and raised on Maui, she has lived on O'ahu for the past 18 years. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been with the Sex Abuse Treatment Center as a therapist in the clinical department for 16 years. She has experience working with survivors of sexual violence, sex trafficking and domestic violence. She also has a small private practice in Honolulu.

Shantae Williams and Ana Lisa Phifer are both leaders with The Susannah Wesley Community Center Trafficking Victim Assistance Program, which provides victim-centered, trauma-informed comprehensive case management to survivors of all forms of human trafficking statewide for minors and on the island of Oahu for adults.

Farshad Talebi currently serves as the State Human Trafficking Coordinator for the Hawai'i Department of the Attorney General. His role is aimed at enhancing offender accountability through prosecutions of human trafficking crimes, developing capacity and policy initiatives in this area, and facilitating education, training and collaboration with government entities, law enforcement, state agencies, community groups, and national partners and organizations.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the webinar, participants will:

1).  Understand the spectrum of sexual violence, including sex trafficking, and how experiences of these issues have been impacted by COVID-19

2).  Learn potential red flags of sexual abuse/violence and sex trafficking, and how to support a friend or family who may be a victim

3).  Identify available resources at local and national level
