Course Description

This 10-hour certification course is designed to give the participants a basic understanding of Hawai‘i’s history, culture, language, and values. This course teaches participants how to research, develop, and customize a tour in a concise, effective, interactive, and entertaining manner. Participants are provided with a course manual and an interactive CD.  At the completion of the course,  participants will take a final exam that requires a passing grade of 80% or better. Upon successful completion of the course and test, participants will receive a certificate that acknowledges their integrity and commitment to their profession, as well as to our visitors and our industry.  Employment Training Funds available for up to 50% of registration fee. To obtain the State of Hawaii Tour Driver/Guide certification and pin, participants are required to also complete the Chinese, Japanese and Korean language and protocol classes, as well as Ho`okipa Me Ke Aloha (four) training modules.

Learner Outcomes

Participants will be able to demonstrate effective guide techniques when giving a tour on Oahu.
