Course Description

This is an Hybrid ACLS course. HeartCode® ACLS is a self-directed, comprehensive online program. Students will be provided an AHA key for the online portion and the ACLS Provider Manual and the 2015 Handbook of Emergency Cardiovascular Care to enhance learning and facilitate successful completion of the patient cases.

 

Students must complete a precourse self-assessment. Students must complete the 6.5 hour online portion sucessfully. The cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students will take a multiple choice exam and must pass with a minimum score of 84%.

 

Students must complete the 5.5 hours of required hands-on skills stations successfully to receive the certification and CME. Skills station and student performance will be conducted in the classroom and times as identified or designated for the respective class.

 

This course is for state of Hawaii licensed EMS providers. Non-state licensed and non-EMS providers will be admitted at the discretion of the course director/instructor

Non-state licensed and/or non-EMS providers may be admitted at the discretion of the course instructor/coordinator (these outside providers may reach the course instructor/coordinator using contact information provided within the course details).

Learner Outcomes

  1. Recognize and initiate early management of periarrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating automated external defibrillator (AED) use
  3. Recognize and manage respiratory arrest
  4. Recognize and manage cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care
  5. Recognize and initiate early management of acute coronary syndromes, including appropriate disposition
  6. Recognize and initiate early management of stroke, including appropriate disposition
  7. Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
