Course Description

This 6-week course provides a comprehensive introduction to sustainability, renewable energy, and climate resilience, with a special focus on the unique challenges and opportunities the island of Oʻahu faces. Students will explore foundational concepts of sustainability, focusing on environmental, economic, and social dimensions. Through systems thinking, students will gain an understanding of how natural and human systems are interconnected and how these insights can be applied to solve complex environmental problems.

Course Outline

This five-week course introduces students to:

  • sustainability, systems thinking, climate change;
  • renewable energy technologies and applications;
  • energy systems, circular economy, and resilience hubs;
  • climate resilience, adaptation, and cultural well-being;
  • local solutions, global impacts, and long-term resilience.
