Course Description

This solar-plus-storage course offered online on-demand through Solar Energy International (SEI) will cover the fire and building codes (I-Codes: IRC, IFC & IBC along with the  NFPA 1 and NFPA 855 Standards) installation requirements, and product safety standards (UL 9540) for energy storage systems (ESS). The course is intended for electrical contractors, solar installers, building officials, engineers, and designers, who are already familiar with grid-interactive PV systems, but want to understand installation requirements specific to energy storage systems.

Course Outline

Learner Outcomes

Participants in the training will:

  • Understand why building and fire codes are important for ESS
  • Identify the relevant building and fire codes for ESS
  • Discuss how codes and standards relate to each other and to our ESS installation
  • Review I-codes, NFPA1, and NFPA 855 articles and sections
  • Discuss UL 9540 listing and the UL 9540A test method
