Course Description

This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practice of beekeeping, emphasizing the essential role of bees in pollination, food security, and ecological sustainability. Students will gain practical experience in hive management, honey production, and pest control, while exploring the biological and ecological significance of honey bees. Key topics include bee anatomy, life cycles, and behavior. Through hands-on activities, students will learn to set up and manage hives, prevent swarming, perform hive inspections, and harvest honey, with a focus on sustainable agriculture.

Learner Outcomes

At the successful completion of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the anatomy of honey bees, including the external and internal structures, and explain the life cycle and behaviors of the queen, workers, and drones within the hive.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to properly set up and manage a beehive, including executing swarm prevention techniques, managing honey production, and implementing pest management strategies.
  3. Explain the ecological significance of bees, particularly their role in pollination, and analyze the impact of bee populations on biodiversity and food production.
  4. Perform hands-on beekeeping activities such as safely handling bees, conducting hive inspections, and harvesting honey.
