Course Description

Social Media for Business Development is a hands-on seven-week program designed to help participants understand how social media works and how to use it strategically for personal branding, entrepreneurship, and business growth. Hosted by the University of Hawai'i Leeward Community College Office of Workforce Development, each session features a Hawai'i-based influencer who shares real-world experience and leads a guided, hands-on activity.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the Social Media For Business Development program, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how social media platforms function, including basic algorithm behavior, audience engagement, and content formats.

  2. Identify multiple models of success on social media, beyond viral content, such as community building, education, storytelling, and monetization.

  3. Evaluate social media strategies to determine which approaches align with their personal brand, business goals, and values.

  4. Apply learned strategies by creating or refining social media content, engagement tactics, or branding elements during hands-on activities.

  5. Distinguish between short-term trends and sustainable growth practices when planning social media content.

Put your skills into practice at our Capstone Session on Friday, November 20. Hosted at the Wahiawā Value-Added Product Development Center, this final session invites you to collaborate with local businesses, sample their products for free, and create custom social media content for their brands. It’s your opportunity to build a professional portfolio and showcase your skills to real-world clients.
