Course Description

This course teaches the student to adapt their basic massage techniques to pre- and post- event needs of competitive athletes and people engaging in recreational sports activities.

Learner Outcomes

  • Comprehend and be knowledgeable in functional anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology and pathology as it relates to Sports Massage.
  • Describe the general theory and concepts of Sports Massage techniques including: pre-event, inter-competition, preventative/maintenance, and curative methods.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the benefits of Sports Massage as well as be able to identify sports injuries and contraindications.
  • Demonstrate application of various Sports Massage techniques including stretching and joint mobilization.
