Course Description

Introduces basic technical information and hands-on experience in the multiple facets of printmaking media.

Course Purpose: To explore the history and technical processes of printmaking and how they can transform an artist’s portfolio.

Course Description: We will be exploring the following printmaking mediums in depth: monotype, collograph, and relief printing.

Course Outline

Sessions 1-6: Monotype Printing (6 Sessions)

Session 1: Introduction to Monotype: History & Techniques | Gelli Plates part 1
Session 2: Gelli Plates part 2 + watercolor monotypes
Session 3: Gelli Plates part 3 + paper marbling
Session 4: Watercolor monotypes + Blended roll monotypes with Botanicals
Session 5: 2 plate monotypes + collage
Session 6: Critique

Sessions 7-12: Collagraph Printing (6 sessions)

Session 7: tape collagraphs
Session 8: cardboard collagraphs + carborundum collagraphs
Session 9: Printing of cardboard and carborundum collagraphs
Session 10: Botanical collagraph final project
Session 11: Final project printing
Session 12: Critique

Sessions 13-24: Relief Printing (12 Sessions)

Session 13: History of Relief Printing + carve a Speedy Carve stamp
Session 14: Designing Relief Prints, Start single layer carving
Session 15: Finish single layer carving + print edition of 12
Session 16 Relief printing on fabric - thrift printing day!
Session 17: Multi-block Relief Printmaking part 1
Session 18: Multi-block Relief Printmaking part 2

Session 25: Begin Single plate project
Session 26: Print single plate project - edition of 6
Session 27: Begin Multi plate dry point
Session 28: Mult Plate drypoint - work on plates and begin printing
Session 29: Multi plate drypoint - finish printing - edition of 6
Session 30: Critique & Presentation of Drypoint Prints

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
