Course Description:This non-credit section of Guitar introduces beginning guitar techniques in a supportive setting for community members and non-students. Over eight weeks, participants will explore fundamental guitar techniques, including basic chords, strumming patterns, and music literacy in a supportive setting. No prior experience is necessary.

Course Outline

Objectives:

  • Develop proper hand positioning, posture, and strumming technique

  • Learn fundamental chords, scales, and basic music literacy for guitar

  • Build confidence in solo and ensemble playing

Topics:

  • Guitar tuning, basic chords, rhythm, reading tabs/notation, recital prep

Assessment:

  • Participation and final recital performance
