Course Description

Part B Working with the hive and harvesting honey. This is the second in a series Four, 5 hour, non credit courses (A, B, C and D) to provide the student introductory information on keeping bees in Hawaii. In Part B. Student will understand the inner workings of a bee hive, including: what the internal parts are, where the bees live and reproduce. Students will also learn basic working with bees and hive manipulations. Students will learn techniques to harvest honey. This will be then followed by: Part C, construction of hives, assembling woodenware/equipment.

Notes

The goal of this course is to provide the beginning beekeeper a small glimpse of the commitment needed to begin working with bees and should the student, then want to further training and learn more, they should consider taking the semester length courses in introductory beekeeping (AG 162) and advance beekeeping (Ag 163) that are taught regularly at UHMC Agriculture and Natural Resources Dept.
