Course Description

This non-credit section of Hawaiian Chorus offers a welcoming space for community members and non-students to explore choral singing in the Hawaiian language. Over eight weeks, participants will learn foundational vocal techniques, basic music theory, pronunciation, and ensemble performance practices rooted in Hawaiian musical traditions. Open to singers of all levels, the course culminates in a group performance.

Course Outline

Objectives:

  • Learn vocal technique, Hawaiian language pronunciation, and music fundamentals
  • Develop ensemble skills and foster collaboration through Hawaiian choral repertoire

Topics:

  • Warm-ups, pitch, tone, rhythm, notation, Hawaiian diction, ensemble singing

  • Participation and final group performance
