BEGINNER SEWING

Calling all aspiring fashion designers and creatives! This is your chance to step into the world of fashion by learning the basics of sewing. Students will be instructed on how to thread and operate a sewing machine and learn basic sewing skills. We will also touch on the world of fabrics, basic fashion design concepts, measuring the body for fit and how to read a commercial sewing pattern during this three-day class. Students will be asked to supply their own fabrics for our fun sewing projects that will be completed each class.

Students should bring their own domestic sewing machine to class, as being familiar with how to operate your machine is critical to successful sewing endeavors. IMPORTANT: Sewing machines should be in good working order! Please be sure to bring the power plug, foot pedal cord, sewing feet attachments and machine manual! A very limited number of machines in the sewing lab will be available for use. Please email the instructor if you would like to reserve one.

No previous sewing experience is necessary. Classes will be held at UH Maui College campus in the Hookipa Fashion Tech Lab. A supply list will be emailed a week prior to class so that students can come to class prepared.
