Course Description

There's a growing demand for pharmacy technicians in Hawai`i as a result of our rapidly growing healthcare industry. Separate yourself from the competition through our course which provides the skills and knowledge necessary to receive national certification, and build the foundation for a pharmaceutical career. Employers will recognize that you're more qualified to offer effective patient care and service. Besides learning the history of pharmaceutical medicine, you'll develop skills in calculations, drug classification, processing, inventory, and billing - various roles of a Pharmacy Technician in retail and hospital settings. Also, please note that basic computer skills and typing skills (+35 WPM) are preferred requirements to ensure your success. 

Course fees include textbooks, practice tests, and the PTCE Industry credential exam fees.

Course Outline

The course provides the skills and knowledge necessary to receive national certification. Students will develop skills in calculation, drug classification, processing, inventory, and billing in retail and hospital settings.   • Perform the various duties of a pharmacy technician in different settings, e.g., retail/outpatient, hospital/inpatient
  • Apply state and federal laws related to pharmacy
  • Perform pharmaceutical calculations accurately
  • Understand pharmacy inventory and 3rd party billing
  • Identify and classify the top 200 Drugs

Prerequisites

1. Current Criminal Abstract (https://ecrim.ehawaii.gov) (abstract needs to be submitted within 30 days of issuance).

2. Proof of 1-Step TB test completed within the last six months.

3. Proof of MMR vaccination (titer is acceptable).

Section Notes

This course will be held online only. Classes will meet online every Sunday & Monday (5:00pm - 9:00pm) from 08/17/2025 - 11/03/2025. Classes will also have independent online studies Monday through Friday.
