HLTH4003 - Certified Nurse Aide

Course Description

The non-credit Certified Nurse Aide is a state-approved 130-hour course combining lecture, lab, and clinical experience to prepare entry-level students to learn the basic nursing care for the elderly, the ill, and the disabled in long-term care sub-acute and home health settings. Students completing the training successfully will be eligible to sit for the certification exam to become certified nurse aides (CNAs).

Health documents and immunizations, criminal background checks, and other requirements will be requested before beginning their clinical experience.

COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Describe the roles and responsibilities of the nurse aide as a member of the health care team.
2. Describe effective nurse aide care to support and maintain patient function and health.
3. Describe therapeutic communication skills with clients, families, and other members of the health care team.
4. Describe nurse aide interventions to meet the emotional and physical requirements of special populations.
5. Discuss ethical, legal principles, and professional conduct in health care settings.
6. Identify health care infection control and safety procedures.
