Course Description

Inspired by David Allen’s best-selling book, Getting Things Done (GTD), this introductory course will help you say “no” to new work and set realistic deadlines for your promises. Learning GTD techniques will not tell you how to prioritize tasks however, you will learn methods to keep track of all your commitments and break them down into easy to do actions. Discover a better way to decide what it is you want to work on and become aware of what tasks you are deciding not to do.

Learner Outcomes

The participant will: 1) Learn how to improve efficiency and organization. Help minimize the amount of time and energy spent thinking about what needs to be done to allow more time and energy to actually be doing these things.

2) Improve focus. Help work with a clearer, less distracted and more relaxed state of mind so the individual can focus on important work and be more efficient.

3) Reduce firefighting and improve keeping commitments. Help the individual work on the right thing at the right time to a) reduce firefighting and b) avoid "dropping the ball" on the promises and commitments made.

4) Reduce stress and procrastination. Help break amorphous and intimidating projects down into doable actions. These skills will be assessed during the class through hands-on activities, and by the participant in their daily work life.
