Course Description

This Medical Assistant Training Program prepares students to begin a career as a medical assistant in a health clinic. Training will start with a three-week didactic training that includes lecture instruction on topics such as a healthcare system overview, ethics & laws, infection control, medical terminology, vitals - adults/peds, procedure set-up/assist, ophthalmology/ENT and dermatology. Included within the three weeks will be supervised clinical rotations throughout East Hawaii Health Clinics and Hilo Medical Center facilities. Following the three weeks, participants will be work in their assigned clinics as Nurse Aides.

Course Outline

This 12-week, intensive, hands-on Medical Assistant program serves as a direct pathway to becoming a certified Medical Assistant who would be qualified to work in a health care clinic.

Prerequisites

Participants work as full-time Entry-Level Nurse Aides in benefitted positions with the East Hawaii Region of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
