Course Description

This program will introduce English and Hawaiian culture to Kyoritsu Women's University students participating in the 2-week intensive program for Kyoritsu Women's University program and the University of Hawaii-Kapiolani Community College. The training program will focus on English language and various cultural aspects in Hawaii, traditional and modern. Students are encouraged to speak English at most, deepen cross-cultural understanding, and broaden their horizons. 

Course Outline

Course Content & Activities :

  1. English language class 
  2. English interview workshop 
  3. Ho'okipa Me Ke Aloha Hawaiian culture workshop 
  4. Cross Cultural awareness class 
  5. Safety awareness workshop 
  6. Special business lecture 
  7. Iolani Palace tour 
  8. Lei making and hula 
  9. Missouri Memorial Tour 
  10. Hotel operation tour (Kahala Resort) 
  11. Final presentation

Learner Outcomes

By the end of program, the students will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles and concepts of Hawaiian culture;
  2. Demonstrate an example of Hawaiian lei making and dance;
  3. Apply the knowledge of English language concepts and skills in actual classroom and interview setting.
