HLTH3091 - School Health Assistant
Course Description
This course prepares participants to function at an entry level school health environment. Students will learn the role of a school health assistant in identifying needs of students and maintaining a school health room. Participants will be introduced to the legal and ethical responsibilities of the school health assistant. This course will combine online and in-person practical training.
Learner Outcomes
1. Function in the role of a school health assistant
2. Demonstrate knowledge of common health problems of elementary, middle and high school-age students
3. Perform within the legal limits of the school health assistant in identifying, referring, facilitating and reporting student health issues
4. Perform selected therapeutic skills and procedures safely
5. Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and health care professionals
6. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of health records
