Course Description

This is an introductory course in Shiatsu, which is a Japanese form of massage using deep pressure to stimulate the same points used in acupuncture. Participants will learn a full body routine that is anatomically based. Emphasis will be placed on posture, breathing, and application of Shiatsu skills. Elementary Eastern theories of health and disease will be introduced as it applies to Shiatsu.

Learner Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate basic Shiatsu techniques to apply in a chair, on a table, and floor.
  2. Demonstrate a full body (anatomy-based) Shiatsu routine.
  3. Explain basic concepts of Shiatsu theory.
  4. Demonstrate balance of posture, hand positions, and breathing in a Shiatsu routine.
