Course Description

Training on hazardous chemicals is a top priority for safety managers and trainers.  It is important that employees are protected from the physical hazards of chemicals, and acute and chronic health effects which can result from improper handling or storage.  Employers must comply with the training requirement of 1910.1200 and be able to demonstrate to OSHA that there is an effective HazCom training program in place.  Employers must raise awareness of the dangers and potential costs of improperly handled hazardous chemicals, which can prevent incidents, illnesses and injuries, and promote a safe compliant workplace.

After training, employees should be able to:
 
  • Discuss the importance of the HazCom Standard and adoption of the GHS provisions, 
  • Explain the use of the hazardous chemical inventory and where it can be found at your company, 
  • Explain the use of safety data sheets and the information required to be on each one, and the location oft he safety data sheets at your company, 
  • Explain the importance of chemical container labels, the GHS required elements included on labels, as well as what to do if a container label is missing or illegible, 
  • Discuss the information and training requirement of the standard, 
  • Explain the purpose of the written HazCom program and how to access it, and
  • List some simple actions to stay safe when working with chemicals
