Course Description

This course is approved by the Hawai‘i Board of Dentistry for 145 continuing education credits.

Community Dental Health Coordinators (CDHC) build trust at the grassroots level in the community they serve. They play an important role in bridging the gap between cultures and the dental healthcare system. CDHCs navigate community members through the system and community services, helping diverse populations overcome barriers that prevent them from accessing and benefiting from dental health services. They serve as advocates, facilitators, motivators, and culture brokers with oral health resources. Their overall goal is empowering community members, communities and dental healthcare systems to achiever positive outcomes and to reach the optimal level of wellness for everyone

  • Demonstrate proficiency in Communication and Cultural Competency
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Interviewing Skills
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Legal and Ethical Issues in dental care
  • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of Financing and Payment for Dental Care
