Course Description

This program prepares operators to provide residential care of individuals in the home, covering structural and service requirements by the Department of Health (DOH) for operating an Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH). Participants learn about diseases, preparation of special diets, following through with existing therapies, and behavior management. In addition, participants will gain simple accounting knowledge and become familiar with rules and regulations established by the DOH. This format also ensures participants complete the entire training program in a single track of courses that include ARCH Module 12, ARCH Module 13 and ARCH Module 14.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
1. Function as a member of the Adult Residential Care Home team providing safe and effective personal care to the residents.
2. Distinguish residentʻs needs based on physical and cognitive changes associated with the aging process.
3. Apply federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
4. Recall the legal and ethical responsibilities of the Adult Residential Care Home Operator.

Prerequisites

Documentation of completion of a Hawaii State Nurse Aide Training Program (NATP) 100+ hours AND a copy of your CURRENT Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) card administered by the American Red Cross or Prometric.
