Course Description

This program will introduce Hawaiian and local Hawaii traditional and modern culture, and community efforts/involvements to current social issues of Hawaii to a group of Japanese University Professors (Hosei University, Hokkaido University, Iwate University and Nagoya University) participating in the 4-days intensive program for Hosei University program 2014 University of Hawaii-Kapiolani Community College. The training program will focus on various cultural and social aspects in Hawaii, traditional and modern. Participants are encouraged to speak English at most, deepen cross-, multi-cultural understanding, and broaden their horizons.

  4. Talk Session on Hokule'a 
  5. Tour at Ka Honua Momona Reef Restoration 
  6. Tour and Talk Session at Halawa Ohana Lo'i Kalo 
  7. Lecture and Tour at First Wind 
  8. Lecture and Tour at H-Power 
  9. Lecture at Kahumana Farm 
  10. Tour at Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, and talk session with Council of Native Hawaiian Kupuna 
  11. Tour and Lecture at Iolani Sportswear 
  12. Lecture on Honolulu Rail 
  13. Lecture at the Pacific Gateway Center 
  14. Tour at UH-Manoa Hawaiian Studies Lo'i 
  15. Lecture at Myron B.Thompson School of Social Work 

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the program, the participants will be able to: 

  1. Describe the basic principles and concepts of Hawaiian and local Hawaii history, culture, social issues and community efforts/involvements
