Course Description

This capstone course provides an overview of interpreting in academic and related settings and an opportunity to work directly with a variety of consumers/ Practicum students will participate in as much "hands-on" experience as is appropriate to the particular situation. After initial observation, students will interpret with the on-site interpreter in a various activities; providing support and working with individuals, and small and large groups. Students will submit a Practicum notebook with capstone e-portfolio. The e-portfolio includes evidence that documents how the Interpreter Education Program competencies have been satisfied. 

Learner Outcomes

  1. Interpret clearly in ASL, Contact Varieties of English and English.
  2. Apply principles of process interpreting, effective decision-making and teaming strategies while interpreting 
  3. Demonstrate appropriate professional and ethical behaviors in the practicum setting 
  4. Document practicum assignments/experiences and submit reflections and artifacts demonstrating progress on Interpreter Education program outcomes in the Capstone e-portfolio.
