Course Description

If you are considering a career in healthcare, this is the course for you! The vast array of medical terms you learn will provide a solid foundation for any career you are considering. It will also help you confirm that working in healthcare is for you. Students continuously evaluate instructor Sally Pestana very high in her ability to make medical terminology come alive with her interesting real life stories and examples. She has taught medical terminology throughout Hawaii for 30 years. She is passionate about the importance of medical terminology for everyone to use both professionally and personally.

Learner Outcomes

  1. Define, give examples of, and use correctly the following word parts used in building and analyzing medical terms: prefixes, suffixes, word roots, and combining forms.
  2. Correctly use plural endings for medical terms.
  3. Correctly define selected medical terms dealing with all body systems.
  4. Define and give examples of terminology used for surgical and diagnostic procedures and pathology.
  5. Build medical terms by correctly putting word parts together.
  6. Analyze the component parts of medical words to derive the meaning of the words.
  7. Analyze and define terms dealing with various medical and dental specialties.
