Course Description

As residents of Hawai?i, we have a collective responsibility to share knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture that is factual and respectful. During this course you will learn how to enhance important communication skills, such as interpretation and storytelling, when sharing stories about home. In addition, you will learn how to design and develop customized experiences for your visitors. Whether you are hosting a professional tour or one for your friends, this course will help you develop storytelling and presentation skills that will engage your audience.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the course, learners will be able to use the knowledge gained to:

  • Use effective communication, interpretation, and storytelling techniques to deliver an engaging presentation based on factual information about Hawaii history, culture, and significant places of interest.
  • Deliver a customized visitor experience based on customer preferences and interests.
  • Demonstrate the importance of sustaining the Hawaiian culture through the oral narrative tradition.
