Course Description:

This course is intended for anyone who is interested in the mo?olelo (stories) associated with Kaua?i’s wahi pana (significant places). This three-day course will cover some of the wahi pana found in the moku, or district. Participants will learn about the mythology, history, and traditional names of specific sites found in this moku. The course will also include a huaka?i, or field trip, to some of the places that we discuss in class.

After completing the course, the student will:

  • Identify specific places on Kaua?i and the stories attached to them.

  • Describe Hawaiian mythology as it relates to place names and the natural environment.

  • Recognize the history of Kaua?i’s landscape and its connection to Kaua?i’s people.
