Course Description

Earn the new Hawaii Tourism Association recognized certification for tour guides and drivers. This 4-hour certification exam is designed to assess all of your training and career experiences.

Learner Outcomes

To receive certification, candidates are expected to achieve the following:

Part I - minimum score of 75% for the knowledge exam which covers the following topics:

    • Professional standards for Hawaii’s Ambassadors of Aloha 

o Hawaiian history, language, and culture

o The importance of Ho‘opkia and its relationship to Hawaii's visitor industry

o Providing customer service to a diverse, global audience

Part II - minimum score of 75% for the delivery of a sample tour that proves candidates is able to:

    • Design a customized tour based on customer preferences and island-specific interests and attractions.

o Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and the appropriate response in servicing a global customer base.

o Deliver factual and respectful information about Hawaii’s history, culture, and language using learned communication, interpretation, and storytelling skills.
