Course Description

SLIM presents a multi-faceted training program in sustainability best practices designed for building and facility operations. This includes a high-level overview of sustainability rating systems, such a LEED EBOM, Hawaii Green Business Program, Green Key and Portfolio Manager. Participants will assess a selected resort in teams of four with a single rating system as they participate in this experiential learning project and present findings in a formal presentation. Learner Outcomes

-Understand LEED EBOM (Existing Building Operations & Management) criteria -Understand Hawaii Green Business Program (HGBP) criteria -Understand Trip Advisor Green Leaders Program (TAGLP) criteria - Understand Green Key Rating system - Complete (TAGLP) assessment or Green Key rating system -Know how to assess and report baseline energy, water, waste, air, building material, landscaping resource use and inefficiencies - Gain experience in making a formal presentation of assessment findings and recommendations

Prerequisites

Preference given to: 1. Enrolled UH Maui College students who have taken coursework related to energy efficiency, water efficiency, lean production techniques, environmental management, or green building technology. Other relevant coursework will be considered. 2. Students or workforce employed or unemployed who have significant work experience in energy, water, and/or waste management fields and/or have experience working in resort settings may also apply.
