Course Description

Residents of Hawai’i have a collective responsibility to share knowledge of Hawaiian history and culture that is informative, accurate and respectful. During this course, you will learn to enhance important communication skills such as interpretation and storytelling when sharing stories about Hawai`i. In addition, you will learn how to design custom and engaging tours for your visitors. Whether you are hosting a professional tour or a group of relatives and friends, this course will enhance your presentation skills which allow you to share engaging stories about our host culture and islands.

Learner Outcomes

At the end of this course, you will be able to: Deliver a presentation based on accurate information about Hawaii's history, culture, and language using learned communication, interpretation, and storytelling skills Create a customized visitor experience based on customer preferences and interests Outline procedures for dealing with unexpected challenges Present interesting and accurate information about the language, history, culture, and sites of Hawai'i Describe the importance of sustainability of culture to Hawaii as tourism destination Employment Training Funds available: http://labor.hawaii.gov/wdd/home/employers/etf/micro/ This course is recommended for the following programs: Certification for Hawaii`s Professional Tour Guides Certificate for Customer Service in Hawai`i Career Success in Hawaii’s Service Industries
