Course Description

Advanced Cardiac Life Support - Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP) provides seasoned ALS providers the opportunity to both re-certify their ACLS provider cards as well as experience interactive case-based learning and discussion with peers on cardiovascular, pharmacology, toxicology, metabolic, and other special topics beyond the "usual" ACLS refresher. Participants will complete on-line testing before coming into class.

Learner Outcomes

  • Apply the expanded systematic approach (ACLS-EP Survey) to patient assessment, evaluation and management
  • Expand knowledge of cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, respiratory, and metabolic emergencies, and their management
  • Prioritize assessments and interventions for post-cardiac arrest care
  • Elaborate current trends in clinical pharmacology and toxicology
  • Perform high-performance CPR and other key BCLS and ACLS skills
  • Practice effective communication within a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance

Prerequisites

  1. State of Hawaii EMS licensure
  2. The AHA requires you are current in ACLS. You may be required to provide a copy of your current ACLS card upon request.
  3. You must have access to the most current ACLS Provider textbook and bring that book to class.
  4. You are required to complete the online self-assessment or pretest. The log on information is located on the inside the new textbook prior to class.
