Course Description

Participants will acquire skills in the management of patient medical accounts standard healthcare billing methodologies. Through the use of required books, participants will use the terms and practical knowledge of: coding, insurances, acronyms, compliance, fraud, abuse, and managed care. Participants may bring their own copy of the following books if they have them, (older versions allowed) CPT (Professional or standard) and ICD-10, and HCPCS books. Also, please note that intermediate computer skills are a preferred requirement to ensure your success in this program.

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion, students will take the American Medical Billing Association's Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist certification exam.

This is an online teaching course only. Classes will meet online every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 5:30pm-9:30pm (02/25/2025 - 04/17/2025). MANDATORY ONLINE ORIENTATION WILL BE HELD ON 02/18/2025 (5:30PM-7:30PM).

NOTE: Direct Instructional Hours = 85; Monitor Exam Application Process and Outcome = 8 hours. The Leeward Community College CERTIFICATE OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WILL BE AWARDED ONLY AFTER COMPLETION OF 85 HOURS CLASS INSTRUCTIONS AND TAKING THE CERTIFICATION EXAMS.
