Course Description

This course is designed to equip the student with the knowledge to efficiently administer medication in the physician’s office and to be able to recognize adverse reactions and toxic effects associated with medication. 

Learner Outcomes

Student Learning Objectives (SLOs):
A. Identify drug classification, usual dose, side effects, and contraindications of the top most commonly used medications.
B. Demonstrate accurate occupational math and metric conversions for proper medication administration.
C. Identify parts of prescriptions.
D. Identify appropriate abbreviations that are accepted in prescription writing.
E. Comply with legal aspects of creating prescriptions, including federal and state laws.
F. Properly utilize Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR), drug handbook and other drug references to identify a drug’s classification, usual dosage effects, and contraindications.
G. Comply with federal, state, and local health laws and regulations.
