Course Description

The purpose of externship course is to provide students practical experience in ambulatory health care facilities. While the externship is considered a learning experience for students, it is expected that the extern student meet the requirements for certification through the development of learned skills necessary of a Medical Assistant and make a valuable contribution to the office or clinic during their period of assignment. Extern students are supervised and graded by both the Externship Instructor Coordinator and Externship Site Preceptor.

Student Learning Objectives (SLOs):
A. Perform administrative procedures listed in Module II courses.
B. Perform clinical procedures listed in Module III courses.
C. Perform laboratory procedures listed in Module IV courses.
D. Demonstrate competencies in Module I.
E. Demonstrate successfully all American Medical Technologist performance competency skills listed in order to qualify to apply for the Registered Medical Assistant certification examination.
