Course Description

Finding employment in healthcare can be difficult if you don’t have training or experience. Leeward CC now offers a Medical
Assisting Program designed to get you started, and features preparation/ testing fees for multiple credentials to give you a
well-rounded skillset. Our standards are aligned with national certifications and our evening/weekend schedule is made to
accommodate those who may be working or going to school during the day.

As a Medical Assistant you may pursue a rewarding career in a number of settings, including: family and internal
medicine clinics, hospitals, pain centers, and a variety of specialty areas.

This is a 784 hours course in medical assisting that includes basic skills and knowledge for entry level employment.

Learner Outcomes

The graduate of this course is able to:

  1. Apply entry-level medical assisting skills and knowledge at a medical facility.
  2. Use appropriate medical terminology while engaging in patient care.
  3. Provide patient care and coordination of services.
  4. Communicate appropriately and effectively with patient and co-workers.

Prerequisites

  1. High School Completion
  2. SAT/ACT 11th grade level math and reading or college transcript
  3. Basic computer skills
  4. Completed Leeward CC Physical Examination Clearance Form.
  5. Proof of 2-Step TB test completed within the last six months.
  6. Proof of MMR vaccination (titer is acceptable).
  7. Proof of Hep B series vaccination (titer is acceptable).
  8. Copy of you photo ID
  9. Current Criminal Abstract (https://ecrim.ehawaii.gov) (abstract needs to be submitted within 30 days of issuance).
