Course Description

This one-day garden workshop provides the opportunity for participants to familiarize themselves with the problems around food security while implementing practical strategies for mitigation and developing networks for support.

Learner Outcomes

Upon successful completion participant will be able to:
  1. Understand the urgent need for food production at the home-, community- and state-level in context of our island’s unique circumstances.
  2. Develop new partnerships to support greater food production goals.
  3. Advance skills needed to grow a healthy garden, related to:
  • Seed germination
  • Nutrient management for strong, vigorous plants
  • Soil management practices to optimize quality and health
  • IPM and insect pest recognition
  • Hydroponic set-up and procedures
