Course Description

Experience a full day of immersion into the latest advances in LED lighting design strategies, color matrix, lighting calculation software, and networked lighting controls. The workshop will be taught by Steven Mesh, lighting design expert and principal of Lighting Education + Design, of San Francisco, CA.

Morning session:
•Strategies to comply with the IECC2015 energy code: daylight harvesting, zoning, different types of lighting controls, and exterior lighting requirements.
•TM30 color matrix –how pastel coloration vs saturated coloration is evaluated in the new TM30 system vs how it may have been interpreted by the older color systems.
•Dark sky issues related to lighting: full cutoff vs cutoff, spectral issues, etc.
•Lighting calculation software: a live demonstration of the AcuityVisual program which now includes rendering functions. The instructor will import a floor plan, build up a space of low complexity, add a variety of fixtures, run the calculations, render the space, and show options for interpreting the results.

Afternoon session:
The entire afternoon will address networked lighting control (NLC) systems:
•Review typical components on an NLC and how it works.
•Live demonstration of Lutron Vive simplified wireless NLC system.
•Review Design Lights Consortium (DLC)-qualified products list for NLC systems; review a dashboard for a wireless system installed and commissioned at UC Santa Cruz.
