Course Description

American Sign Language, level 2, will continue to build upon the skills learned in ASL 1.  In addition to expanding expressive language skills, such as vocabulary and grammar, there will be an increased focus on receptive language skills.  In an effort to increase conversational fluency in ASL, there will be less reliance on spoken communication in the classroom, and additional exposure to native ASL users, primarily through technology.  The course will also continue to delve further into issues regarding Deaf Culture. 

Learner Outcomes

Outcomes:

1)      Students will be able to begin, and maintain a basic conversation in American Sign Language

2)      Students will increase their ASL vocabulary by 300-500 words

3)      Students will learn more basic ASL grammatical concepts

4)      Students will learn more about the history of Deaf people and culture, and how that relates to Deaf Culture in today’s society
