Course Description
Introduces and explores the nature of the field of early childhood education and care.
To include 16 workshops in four units:
1) A Person and A Professional, Communicating and Collaborating, The Ethical Practitioner & Learning About Yourself Capstone
2) Learning to Observe, Learning to Write Descriptions, Assessing Children & Learning About Children Capstone
3) Understanding Families, Working with Families, Working with Children with Special Needs and Their Families & Learning About Families Capstone
4) Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow & Learning About the Field Capstone

- For Hawai'i Island (Big Island) residents only, this course is free and paid through a grant requiring the participant to commit to the full series at the time of registration. That means participants must attend all 16 workshops. Check the Apply a Discount box during checkout and enter Coupon Code HIPACE23 for 100% tuition waiver.
- For residents outside Hawai'i Island (Big Island), the cost is $30 per workshop and can be taken on a per workshop basis or as a full series of 16 workshops for $480. Contact our office at (808) 934-2700 or edvance@hawaii.edu to make arrangements for individual workshops. Non-Hawaii Island residents who enroll for the course using the Coupon Code will be contacted to complete self-payment by the first day of classes or be dropped from the course.
- Participants need not be college students to register; however when converting PACE workshops to credit courses, the University of Hawai'i System application is required.
- Workshops are 3 hour sessions, 6:00-9:00pm via the video conferencing platform, Zoom. Participants are required to attend each video session registered for.
- Participants are expected to stay for the full workshop. Late attendance or absence will impact receiving the certificate of completion for each workshop. Participants who miss a workshop are responsible for completing the missing workshop at their own expense, provided workshops are available for retaking.
