ENR4305 - Introduction to the World of 3D Printing (Makerspace)

Course Description

This class will introduce you to the most common 3D printing currently being done. “FDM” Fused Deposition Modeling. We will take various plastic materials in a filament form which looks like the material you use in your weedwacker. Imagine being able to turn some of this into a 3D model of nearly anything you can think of.

Learn to print parts to repair many of the household items that get broken and thrown away simply because you can’t get one small part.  Take some of your ideas that have been kicking around in your head and turn them into real tangible items. Make your own holiday decorations like Christmas ornaments or Halloween masks. The list is endless to what you can come up with.

We will thoroughly cover how to use the software needed to program the printers. You will find the software very user friendly and free to download to your own computer as well. You will learn how to get great results from any 3D printer. We cover all of the basics of 3D printing as well as advanced techniques and trouble shooting of 3D printers. We will teach you the principal of 3D printing as well as how to feel comfortable around 3D printers. We want you to understand how the process works. You will find that it is a very simple process not too different from printing a letter or photo on your standard printer. We are confident that you will complete the class with the knowledge to 3d print on your own.
